SATTAHIP — 18 February 2026, Residents have raised concerns after a large pipe structure was found protruding from the sand at Na Jomtien beach, sparking fears that untreated wastewater may be flowing into the sea. Reporters visited the beach in Na Jomtien subdistrict, Sattahip district, Chonburi province, on Wednesday after locals shared video footage appearing to show a drainage pipe discharging into the water. The clip prompted questions over which project the pipe belongs to and whether wastewater is being released. A morning inspection found a large, square-shaped pipe structure emerging from the sand, partially covered with soil and sand. Local residents said it is part of a beach water treatment project. However, the sight of the structure in the middle of the beach surprised tourists and visitors. However, a strong foul odour lingered in the area, raising concerns about seawater quality and possible environmental impacts. Putthipong Tonthong, a local resident who had come to fish, said he had visited the spot twice and noticed a strong smell on both occasions, particularly on Wednesday. He decided to move to another location. He added that if a wastewater treatment facility operates in the area, it should treat water effectively before any discharge into the sea. He urged relevant authorities to inspect the site and address the issue urgently. Reporters later went to the Na Jomtien Subdistrict Municipality to seek clarification from officials and executives about the project’s origin. Municipal staff said the mayor would need to provide details but was not in the office at the time, advising reporters to return later.
