Samut Songkhram longevity secrets are on display through the lives of two local women aged over 100, as provincial officials visited the centenarians to honour their health, simple lifestyles, and upbeat outlook—factors credited with helping them live well past a century. Governor Chayachai Saeng-in, who also heads the Samut Songkhram Red Cross Chapter, led the visits as part of the programme “Paying Respect to 100 Elders Aged 100: Healing Hearts Close to Home,” presenting certificates, supplies, and financial assistance. The first recipient was Mrs. Arun Chantima, 105, of Amphawa district. She has five children and remains in good health—able to care for herself, with clear eyesight and memory, eating three meals a day and speaking clearly. The visit was marked by a warm atmosphere, with Mrs. Arun greeting the governor cheerfully and flashing a “V” sign that drew smiles from those present. Mrs. Arun Chantima, 105, is presented with an award for having passed the age of 100 Her eldest daughter, Ms. Sudawan Chantima, 72, a medical technologist assistant and primary caregiver, said her mother has long enjoyed traditional foods, especially pla too (short-bodied mackerel), which was a staple at every meal. In later years she has developed a fondness for sweets, but her consistently positive, stress-free outlook has contributed to good mental health. Mrs. Tu Kongkasem, 102, presented with her centenarian award, next to health officials The second recipient was Mrs. Tu Kongkasem, 102, of Bang Khonthi district. She has seven children and is generally healthy, able to care for herself, has near vision, maintains a regular appetite and speaks clearly. Her second daughter, Ms. Kimluan Limsuksereekul, 71, said her mother eats most foods but avoids large fish, choosing only pla too—and insists on having it at nearly every meal. Governor Chayachai said both women exemplify healthy ageing through the same habits seen during the visits—balanced diets, simple living, age-appropriate exercise, and above all, a cheerful, stress-free outlook.
